Web Site Portfolio
Below is a sampling of major sites where I've provided project direction. After meeting with clients, I would develop a site plan, then work closely with an artist and
others to produce the site. Please note that sites have changed significantly since my development work back in the late 1990s. Calavo Growers of California
Calavo provides quality avocados to stores worldwide. The Calavo site has twin
goals: to be a resource for trade buyers and to promote awareness of the Calavo label
among consumers. Buyers find a variety of marketing resources at the site and can
subscribe to an e-mail list to receive up-to-date marketing information. Consumers have
their own resources, along with a variety of multimedia goodies. Shockwave, Java, Real
Audio and other technologies are employed--in a smart way that does not allow the
technology to interfere with the information being presented. Historical tidbits
throughout the site reinforce Calavo's position as an industry leader to both trade buyers
and consumers.
The Grand Prix Association of Long Beach
Fans of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach love speed--and the organizers wanted
those fans to get speed when visiting the Grand Prix's site via modem. Accessibility was
the primary goal. Pages at the Grand Prix site load in 30 seconds or less. Smart design of
the home page immediately presents visitors with key options. Behind-the-scenes
programming allowed the association to update ticket availability remotely, providing
visitors with the latest information. For those with bandwidth and time, digitized video
clips were placed online.
AIDS Walk Orange County
AIDS Walk's main goal was to have visitors sign-up for the June 2 event, and an
online registration form made this easy to do. The site also featured a unique
"Virtual AIDS Walk" area, an online promotion designed to attract visitors and
get them in the mood to support the walk. Over 100 HIV and AIDS information numbers are
also made available in Adobe Acrobat format.
Santa Ana Zoo
The Santa Ana Zoo became one of the first zoos worldwide to establish a
virtual park on the World Wide Web. The site opened in July 1995 and features an online
tour where visitors see and hear the zoo's animals. The site also features video clips, an
interactive online quiz and a mailing list so visitors can keep up with the latest
happenings.
95.9 FM KEZY
(note: site no longer exists) Many companies embark onto the web without a good plan, then find themselves months
later diverting valuable time and energy into fixing and maintaining their web sites.
That's not the case with the 95.9 KEZY site, the first commercial radio station web site
in the Los Angeles market. Launched in March 1995, the site has been improved to keep up
with new browser abilities. However, the basic structure and function--which developed out
of consultation and education--continue to work. It was established at the beginning which
areas of the site would be updated, and how often, so that maintenance would not adversely
affect other operations. Air personalities were taught how to promote the site on the air,
so that listeners could find information about the station's activities and promotions.
