Doogie Howser meets Starship Troopers

For those that don't know, Starship Troopers' Neil Patrick Harris starred in the TV series, Doogie Howser, M.D. It was about a boy genius who became a medical doctor at 15. At the end of each show, Doogie would write in his journal about the lessons he had learned. What would Doogie write if he suddenly found himself transformed into Carl Jenkins? My so-so attempts are below, and you can also see what other people have written, below.

Today I found myself living in Buenos Aires, no longer the boy medical genius Doogie Howser. Somehow, I have been transformed into a psychic genius, Carl Jenkins. All my friends here are signing up for something called "Federal Service." I think I shall too. Perhaps I can use my doctoring skills to help perserve the sancity of life in this new, alternative world.

My habit has been to write a journal entry each day, but I have found Federal Service means breaking some habits. We are faced with a terrible war against the Bugs. Rather than saving lives, my new-found position of authority as a psychic officer has me leading efforts to destroy life. At first, I felt torn between the desire to save and the need to kill. But my doubts dropped away after I blew the legs off a few bug specimen with an MI rifle. It was pretty cool!

Today I had to read the thoughts of a captured brain bug. It has been the biggest test of my psychic powers, ever. I thought what a wonderful gift is it to see into the minds of others. For the first time, a human touched the mind of an alien species. It was an awesome event. I am so pleased I could read the fear of the bug. It will make it so much easier to stamp out every last one of them.
